Utopiales is an international science fiction festival (the biggest European SF Festival), created by Bruno della Chiesa at Futuroscope in Poitiers (France) in 1998.

The original name of the festival, “Utopia” , was suggested by Christian Grenier in 1997.

Renamed “Utopiales” in 2001, the festival takes place at the Cité des Congrès de Nantes since the year 2000 (usually five days in early November). Presided by the writer Pierre Bordage from 2001 to 2011, it is currently the astrophysicist Roland Lehoucq who is in charge.

Both a mass-market event and a gathering of professionals, “Utopiales” is considered the most important science fiction event at the European level and the world’s second-largest science fiction event.
