THE 2018 “ION HOBANA” COLLOQUIUM (9th EDITION) & THE 2018 “ION HOBANA” SF&F AWARDS

Romanian Science Fiction&Fantasy Society

Saturday, November 10th, 2018, 10.00 AM, Great Hall of the Romanian Cultural Institute, Aleea Alexandru nr.38, sector 1, Bucharest, Romania

The Colloquium’s Theme :

“CYBORGS, CLONES, ANDROIDS AND MUTANTS. EVOLUTION OR REVOLUTION?”

“What we should take seriously is the idea that the next stage of history will include not only technological and organizational changes but also fundamental transformations of human consciousness and identity.

And these transformations could be so fundamental as to call into question the very term “human”.

The Second Cognitive Revolution will create a complete type of consciousness and transform Homo Sapiens into something completely different.

Genetic engineering will create a caste of super-men that will make slaves of us the other?

Will bio-dictators clone in billions of copies of fearless soldiers and obedient performers?

Will they create artificial people, the androids mentioned only in science fiction for the time being?

Will humankind be divided forever into genetic casts or will new human species appear? Will there be spontaneous mutants or will there be recourse to the induction of mass mutations?

HOW LONG DO WE HAVE LEFT?

This anthology aims to provide the readers with a number of significant samples of the works of a number of Romanian science fiction authors, predominantly dating from the last 25 years, which have produced some of Romania’s best Science Fiction.

It contains some of the shorter works of established authors, some - Liviu Radu, Cristian Tudor Popescu, Dănuț Ungureanu, Sebastian A. Corn, Cristian Mihail Teodorescu and Marian Truță, among others - are acknowledged romanian masters of the genre - not only among the community of the local science fiction authors, but also the literary critics as a whole, members of the Writers’ Union of Romania and other authorities in the field.

These are accompanied by the works of a number of young authors, who in recent years have published convincing, original material and who, in effect, represent a new generation of Romanian science fiction writers.

The Romanian Science Fiction&Fantasy Society (Societatea Română de Science Fiction&Fantasy=SRSFF) is a non-governmental and non-profit cultural association (NGO), whose goal is to support and encourage the science fiction and fantasy genres in Romania.

The Romanian Society of Science Fiction and Fantasy (SRSFF) organizes the monthly meetings of the ProspectArt Club, publishes the “Fantastica” online magazine, the yearly SRSFF short short anthologies, organizes the “Ion Hobana” annual Colloquiums and grants the SRSFF “Ion Hobana” SF&F Awards.
