Leena Krohn (born February 28, 1947 in Helsinki) is one of the most respected Finnish writers of her generation. In her large body of work for adults and children, Krohn deals with issues related to the boundary between reality and illusion, artificial intelligence, and issues of morality and conscience. Her large and varied body of work includes novels, short stories, children’s books, and essays. In her books she deals with topics that include man’s relationship with himself and the world, morality, borders between reality and illusion, and the problem of life, especially through observing different kinds of artificial intelligence. Archipelacon is a joint finnish-swedish event in the Nordic countries for everyone interested in science fiction and fantasy. It’s a four-day celebration of the fantastic arts in the new Culture & Conference Centre Alandica by the seaside in Mariehamn, Åland. Alandica Culture & Congress Centre, a multifunctional and modern venue Situated in the eastern harbour of Mariehamn, Alandica is a great venue for a science fiction convention. The Danish architecture bureau Kjaer & Richter designed the building with modern functionalism and inspiration from the islands and red rocks of the archipelago. Emmi Elina Itäranta (born 1976 in Tampere, Finland, where she also grew up) is a writer, whose first novel the CliFi “Teemestarin kirja” (literal translation: The Tea Master’s Book; english language version “Memory of Water”) was published in Finland by Teos in 2012. In 2011 her Finnish version of the novel, “Teemestarin kirja” won the Teos Publisher SF contest and received a publishing contract.  The 2014 Philip K. Finland Bids for Worldcon in 2017

A group of finnish fans has announced that they will bid to host the Worldcon in 2017 in Helsinki. The finns finished second in the voting for the 2015 Worldcon (losing to Spokane). Helsinki will once again be in a race with multiple other bids as Japan and Montreal have previously announced bids for 2017. Eemeli Aro will chair the bid with Karoliina Leikomaa as the bid’s Project Manager. Currently, the other bid committee members are Crystal Huff, Jukka Halme and Hanna Hakkarainen. The proposed venue is the Messukeskus, Expo and Convention Centre Helsinki.
